  Step 2: Build a Website that will attract the most customers and one that is high on the search engines results list.

  In order to get the kind of traffic to your website that you need in order to make the most profit , you have to build a website that will attract customers and it has to bring those customers back again and again. When consumers are ready to search and shop from the Internet, they type a few (key)words and the results are then listed on several pages, the websites with the most weight is at the top of the list in the search results. You want your website to be listed on the first page! Preferably in the top two or three websites listed. This is achieved through website popularity and/or through search engine optimization.

E-commerce - With an e-commerce website you are able to accept credit cards through a merchant account and you can also have a shopping cart available so that your visitors can purchase your products immediately. This is probably the best idea only if you have a variety of products to sell but there are dozens of examples where one great product was all that was needed to have a successful website. With proper advertising your e-commerce website can do very well and you can build your business this way. When you get orders from customers through your website it is crucial for you to provide prompt delivery and follw this up with outstanding customer service.

Information Only - This type of website does not have a shopping cart or a merchant account and it’s primary function is to tell customers about your business and what you have to offer. You can make your address, telephone number, hours of operations, prices and as much information as possible known to potential customers when they visit your website. Make it a simple website with easy navigation, photographs of some of your products and detailed descriptios of your services with directions to your place of business. When you send out mailings, when you package your products, printed on your letter head, in press releases and in all of your correspondence include your URL so that people can become fimiliar with it and vistit your website.

Affiliate Programs - A website that is set up with affiliate programs on it can make money by placing links on your website that leads to the pictured products. All you do is start with a theme of products -- sports, romance, books, dating, recipes or whater you decide can have related links to products that gives you a percentage of each sale. With most affiliate you nover know who places orders or when but there is tracking that records your sales and your commission. You can go join an affiliation through Affiliate Programs or in some instances you can go directly through the business for an affiliation.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) it necessary for your website to be high on the list of the major and minor search engines. Even though Google and Yahoo! are the two major avenues of search for most people, there are hundreds of smaller search engines that when combined, get millions of people logged on to their sites, each month.






SEO is the application of applicable keywords and technical code to your website that will give search engines a clearer view of your site and this clear view pushes you up higher and higher on the results pages. The quest is ongoing to get and stay at the top.

Website Popularity is sometimes easier to achieve than SEO. Popularity can be achieved through word-of-mouth and/or by advertising. If your website becomes popular on some of the community websites, that popularity alone is sometime enough to bring on a sure surge to the top when your website address is keyed into a search engine. That is why it is important to mention your website address to everyone that you know. They word of mouth effect can bring you several repeat customers and if their experience is pleasant, they will - hopefully - tell someone else. (If the experience is not pleasant, they will most likely tell several people about it.)
