Will I Go Blind if I Sit in Front of the Computer all Day
Even though there is some strain
on the eyes if we sit in front of the computer all day, there is little chance that any of us will go completely blind. The tell tale signs of eyestrain shows as tiredness, dryness, blurred vision
and irritation. To combat your eyestrain you can make sure your screen is set
at or slightly below eye level to tone down the glare that comes from the screen. You
can find some computer screens that are designed to reduce glare.
Sometimes the light overhead causes too much glare from the screen
and this extra glare causes eyestrain. To see if your overhead light is causing
extra glare from your screen, hold your hands over your eyes like a visor while you look at your screen (with the overhead
light on). If you see less glare while your hands are over your eyes, then your light is too bright and it is causing extra
glare.
Remember the 20/20/20 rule.
After looking at your screen for 20 minutes – look 20 feet
away for 20 minutes.
